Cat feeding math
Cat calories per day calculator
Estimate cat calories per day from weight, age, activity and body condition, then turn the number into wet food, dry food and treats.
What the daily calorie number means
A daily calorie target is the budget the whole bowl has to fit inside. Wet food, dry food and treats all spend from the same budget. BowlMath estimates a starting target, then lets you convert that target into actual label units.
A simple example
If the target is 260 kcal/day and treats are 10 kcal, only 250 kcal remain for meals. A 70/30 wet-dry split would put about 175 kcal into wet food and 75 kcal into dry food. The calculator converts those calories into cans, grams or cups.
When to be careful
Calorie formulas are estimates. Body condition and weight trend matter more than the first number. Recheck portions if leftovers, begging, weight gain or weight loss show up consistently.
Quick answers
How many calories does my cat need per day?
It depends on weight, neuter status, age, activity and body condition. Use BowlMath for a starting estimate, then adjust with weight trend and vet guidance.
Do treats count in daily calories?
Yes. Daily treats should be subtracted before meal portions are calculated.
Important: BowlMath gives a practical starting estimate, not veterinary advice. Ask your veterinarian before changing portions for kittens, seniors, pregnant or nursing cats, diabetic cats, cats on therapeutic diets, or cats gaining/losing weight unexpectedly.
